== Description ==

The '''quickbar''' is a user interface element used for common shortcuts, activities, and item activation.

The quickbar has two main areas:

* The '''tool area''', which is the upper area of the quickbar and contains 12 slots for holding [[Item|items]], including [[Tools|tools]], for quick activation.
* The '''button area''', which is the lower area of the quickbar and contains 12 slots for quickbar buttons linked to common windows, actions, and toggles.

The tool area can be used even without owning or equipping a [[Toolbelt]]. However, automatic item selection while performing actions requires a toolbelt to be equipped.

== Quickbar tool area ==

* The tool area is the upper area of the quickbar and contains 12 slots for [[Item|items]], including [[Tools|tools]].
* Items can be dragged from the [[inventory]] onto tool area slots.
* Items can be removed by dragging them off the quickbar.
* Clicking an item in a tool area slot will activate it.
* The tool area changes based on the selected tab, allowing multiple sets of items or tools to be used.
* Putting a [[container]] in the tool area and activating it selects items in the container if there are any. This is especially useful when [[sowing]] large fields or attaching many identical items to large creations such as ships.
* Filling several containers and placing them in the tool area can allow many attach or sow actions to be queued using a [[Key bindings|keybind]] without using the mouse.

== Tool area tabs ==

* The tool area can have separate tabs, which can be used like loadouts for different sets of items, such as tools.
* New tabs can be added by pressing the plus button next to the existing tabs.
* Tabs can be removed by right-clicking an existing tab and selecting "Remove".
* The tool area slots change when switching tabs.
* The button area slots do not change when switching tabs.
* Tab switching can be assigned through [[Key bindings]], including switching to specific tabs or moving to the next or previous tab.

== Quickbar button area ==

* The button area is the lower area of the quickbar and contains 12 slots for quickbar buttons linked to common windows, actions, and toggles.
* Clicking the plus icon at the top right of the quickbar opens a menu with buttons that can be dragged onto the button area.
* Buttons can be removed by dragging them off the quickbar.
* The button area does not change when switching tool area tabs.

== Key bindings and activation ==

* Tool area slots can be assigned through [[Key bindings]], allowing items in those slots to be activated with hotkeys.
* Button area slots can also be assigned through [[Key bindings]], allowing quickbar buttons to be activated with hotkeys.
* Items in the tool area can be activated by scrolling with the mouse wheel while hovering over the quickbar.

== Locking and visibility ==

* The quickbar slots can be locked or unlocked by pressing the "Lock/Unlock quickbar slots" lock icon in the top right of the quickbar.
* When the quickbar slots are locked, items and buttons cannot be added, removed, or moved within the quickbar.
* The quickbar can be shown or hidden using the main options menu or by typing "toggle quickbar" into the console.
* The size of the quickbar can be toggled by right-clicking the three lines at the top right of the quickbar and selecting '''Toggle size'''.
* The quickbar can also be locked and hidden like other interface windows through the right-click menu.
* The arrow on the far right corner of the quickbar allows the select bar to be toggled.

You can add the following buttons to the quickbar by clicking the plus icon at the top right of the quickbar and dragging buttons onto the button area.
